GREENFRÍO is the first manufacturer to apply this technology and this refrigerant in equipment for drying and maturing hams. To do this, the GREENFRÍO technical office adapted the different components of the circuit, as well as the drying equipment controller in order to comply with the regulations and requirements of this refrigerant. Commonly known as R-744 when used as a refrigerant, carbon dioxide (CO₂) has become one of the most popular natural refrigerants in recent times, although it should be noted that its technology is nothing new since its use was already common for more than a century. Due to growing fears about the detrimental effects that fluorinated refrigerants can have on the environment, natural refrigerants have experienced a new renaissance, especially CO₂ and NH3 refrigeration used for industrial purposes at low temperatures. This popularity that it has achieved lately as a refrigerant is due to its very low impact on the environment compared to HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons), the latter highly threatened by current regulations (F-Gas). CO2₂ does not damage the ozone layer (Ozone Depletion Potential ODP = 0) and has a low effect on atmospheric warming (GWP Atmospheric Warming Potential = 1), taking the latter value as a reference to determine the GWP of other gases . In addition, the high efficiency of this gas also allows it to have a lower indirect contribution to global warming of the planet.
